Match Report
Bandon 15
Killarney13. Munster Junior league.
On Sunday last
Bandon took on Killarney in the Munster Junior League. On a sun drenched day
which brought unseasonal warmth to Old Chapel the home side were well up for
the visit of a team sitting 4th from the top of the league. The game
opened with an early try by Killarney when the ball was moved wide the Bandon
centre was breached leading to a try under the posts which was converted.
Bandon launched attack after attack on the Killarney line the Bandon pack led
by Captain J.P.Lucey was well on top. A line out close to the line saw hooker
Chris Hartnett go in for a try following a clever front of the line out move
with prop Dave Doran. The try was not converted from a difficult angle.
Following a break out from defence by Killarney wing Cathal Crowley prevent a
certain try by ripping the ball from his opposite number as he crossed the
line. Bandon continued to press but a number of penalties allowed Killarney to
clear their lines. Killarney gained some territory and converted a penalty to
leave the score 10pts to 5pts at half time.
Bandon attacked from
the off in the second half a kick down field was chased down by prop Timmy
Crowley and wing forward Mick Murphy forcing Killarney to concede a lineout
close to the try line. A maul from the
lineout saw Pat Prendergast go over for an unconverted try. Bandon continued to
press and were rewarded with a penalty converted by Cathal Crowley. Injury to
full back David Aherne and wing forward Tim O’Mahony saw Bandon bring on Nicky
Walsh and Rob Wilmot. Bandon continued to press and Pat Prendergast was denied
a perfectly good try by the referee. A line out close to the line resulted in
another strong maul from Bandon Pat Prendergast scored again the try was
unconverted. Killarney dragged themselves back into the game aided by some
silly penalties. Killarney converted a penalty bringing the score to 15pts to
8pts. Bandon again conceded a penalty which gave field position to Killarney.
After a sustained period of pressure Killarney scored an unconverted try. With
10 minutes remaining Bandon kept Killarney pinned down in their own half
retaining the ball and seeing the game out for a well deserved win.
